BIRD REPELLENT SERVICES

General Information About Birds

At least once a year, birds shed their plumage. Their main characteristic is their beak. It is used for collecting food, eliminating parasites that may live on them, collecting, carrying, and placing nesting material, defending themselves against enemies, etc. The shape of the beak depends on the type of food the bird feeds on. Birds lack teeth and lips. Their eyes are usually located on the sides of their head. Their bones are light in order to facilitate flight.

They have highly developed senses of hearing and sight. They have much greater visual acuity and visual power than humans. Their eyes are very powerful, while the large opening of their pupils makes things appear brighter. Birds, depending on their species, feed on seeds, grass or worms and insects, or even fish, fruits, etc.

The problem of the presence of birds in many urban areas, also due to the absence of natural predators, tends to take on the dimensions of a real plague. Urban areas in our country, as well as major cities in Europe, face serious problems caused by birds. Pigeons are classified as “urban pests”, along with rats and cockroaches. They nest in any place that can provide them with shelter and access to water and food, and their removal, once they have settled, is particularly difficult.

The problems caused by birds are:

Birds, with their corrosive droppings (urine and feces), increase the maintenance costs of buildings and roads by thousands of euros annually.

Transmission of pathogenic microorganisms: Pathogenic microorganisms that thrive in bird droppings and in the dust produced by them may pose a risk of causing serious diseases in humans, especially in sensitive population groups such as young children, the elderly, and people with vulnerable immune systems, e.g. histoplasmosis, ornithosis, allergies, encephalitis, etc. The presence of birds in ventilation systems allows the spread of pathogenic microorganisms through them into the interior of buildings.

Carriers of harmful arthropods: Birds host a large number of parasites on their bodies, such as bed bugs, fleas, lice, mites, etc., which are transferred to buildings and to the areas where they rest and nest, and which in turn can transmit pathogenic microbes to humans.

Management Method

Proper bird repellent planning is the cornerstone for protecting the spaces where we live and work.

Bird repellent services are carried out using various methods, such as nets/mesh, a pulsing wire system, and a spike system.

A visit from our technician or scientific team will provide the best possible solution to the problem you are facing.

It should be noted that all methods for removing and repelling birds are bird-friendly and do not harm them in any way.

SNAKE REPELLENT SERVICES

General Information

By the term Snake Repellent Services, we refer to the repelling, protection, and treatment of snakes from an area through the use of ecological repellent products that are friendly to snakes, humans, and the environment.

There are many species of snakes, and only a few are venomous and dangerous to humans.

Snakes (Serpentes) are particularly useful and beneficial for the environment and for humans, because they feed on harmful insects and rodents. Snakes appear mainly in the countryside, as well as in semi-urban environments, from early March until the end of October, while during the remaining months they are in hibernation. However, most snakes cause fear and panic in people, who try in every way to drive them away or exterminate them from their surrounding area.

Effects of Snakes

The most important effect of the presence of snakes on our health is their bite. The risk from snake bites and the toxicity of the venom differ depending on the species.

First aid when someone is bitten by a snake differs depending on the species and the properties of their venom. The treatment of a snake bite is determined according to whether the venom is cytotoxic, hemotoxic, or neurotoxic.

  • Cytotoxic venom: It suppresses cell function or causes cell death.
  • Hemotoxic venom: It kills red blood cells and prevents blood clotting, resulting in internal and external bleeding.
  • Neurotoxic venom: It affects the nervous system, destroying nerve tissue.

Snake Species

In Greece, there are approximately twenty-three species of snakes, of which only seven are venomous — five of these belong to the Viperidae family and are considered dangerous to humans. Killing snakes is prohibited by law, as they are not considered pests of public health importance. If we ever come across a snake, it will not chase or attack us. When a snake senses the presence of a human, it tries to escape in any direction. Snakes can attack and bite us only if they are trapped and feel threatened for their life.

Snake Repellent Services are applied from early March until the end of summer. For the best possible results, the application is recommended to be repeated at regular intervals, every 40-50 days. The repellent products used are non-toxic, ecological, and approved by the EOF.
